Welcome to The Website for the Methodist Churches in the Pocklington & Market Weighton area

Pocklington

We are a family friendly church and offer a warm welcome to all. On Sundays we meet for coffee at 10.30am-11.00am, followed by an informal service at 11.00am, and a traditional service is held at 6.00pm. A wide range of events take place during the week including Tuesday - Fellowship meeting 2.30pm, Thursdays - Circuit Choir 7.30pm, Fridays - Coffee Morning 10.00am-11.30am.

Regular Housegroups held throughout the week and Messy Church – 3rd Tuesday each month 3.45-5.45pm.

Pocklington is on the A1079 between York and Hull. We are on Chapmangate, close to the town centre. A large car park is located behind the Chapel. With the Church on your left, after 80 yards turn left into Hallgate. At the end of Hallgate turn left into Kirkland Street. After 100 yards turn left at the ‘No through Road’ sign into Rundle Place and into the car park.

Records indicate that John Wesley visited Pocklington 18 times, the first being in 1752. By 1764 a meeting house existed, probably on the site of the current Chapel, where in 1813 a new chapel was built. The current building dates from 1864 and was completely refurbished in 2000. A burial ground once attached to the church was used until the 1930s. The church seats 200 (100 in balcony and 100 on ground floor). Wesley House adjoins the main church building and offers 3 meeting rooms for up to 20. Facilities include wheelchair access and wheelchair accessible toilet at the rear of the church, audio loop system, baby changing facilities, garden and car park.

The internal structure was completely redesigned in 2000 to create a flexible meeting space. The excellent provision of a large main worship area, entrance space, ancillary rooms and kitchen gives the opportunity for the church and community to provide activities and groups to meet the needs of all. Some rooms are available for hire.
